We are seeking senior researchers to lead studies and evidence-based technical assistance efforts in the areas of child welfare, education, family support, child development, labor, and related topics. The following projects illustrate the type of work we currently have under way:
A project to use behavioral science to design and evaluate program improvements
A study to estimate the prevalence of identity theft in the SNAP (food stamp) program
A study using predictive analytics to better understand the characteristics of children and families who use child welfare and Medicaid services
An evaluation of programs that provide coaching for hard-to-employ low-income populations
An evaluation to examine the impacts of charter schools on students' achievement, students' school success, and parents' satisfaction
A project to provide TANF agencies evidence-based technical assistance on improving their services
A project to provide states, school districts, and organizations with assistance on developing approaches to strengthen the professional development of teachers and principals
As a senior human services researcher, you would join our staff of over 300 doctoral-level researchers and work in a multidisciplinary setting that includes staff with degrees in public policy, economics, statistics, psychology, education, sociology, demography, and related fields. This position can be located in any of the following offices: Princeton, NJ, Washington, DC, Cambridge, MA, Oakland, CA, Chicago, IL, Ann Arbor, MI, or Seattle, WA. Duties of the position
Develop and design research projects, identify appropriate analytical methods, conduct analyses, write briefs and reports, and present the findings to policy and professional audiences
Provide technical assistance to improve programs by identifying and developing evidence-based approaches and supporting continuous quality improvement efforts
Direct teams, work closely with government and other clients, and oversee analyses and other aspects of projects
Contribute to business development and proposals for new projects
Ph.D. or equivalent in economics, public policy, sociology, demography, statistics, psychology, education, or related field
Five or more years of professional research experience and an established research record
Experience directing major research efforts, developing both large and small proposals, developing budgets, and monitoring project costs
Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an ability to translate research findings for practitioner and policy audiences
Ability to work collaboratively in cross-disciplinary teams and with clients
Various federal agencies with whom we contract require that staff successfully undergo a background investigation or security clearance as a condition of working on the project. If you are assigned to such a project, you will be required to obtain the requisite security clearance.
