Cloud Systems Engineer

Mathematica is a large employee-owned nationally recognized research organization that conducts social policy studies on health care, disability, education, welfare, nutrition, and related topics. Our mission is to improve public well-being by bringing the highest standards of quality, objectivity, and excellence to bear on the work we do for our clients, which include federal, state, and local government agencies, as well as private foundations.

We are growing our Products team in our Princeton, NJ office and we’re looking for a cloud systems engineer to join our ranks. The cloud systems engineer will work with our cloud architect and other team members to maintain and enhance the products cloud architecture and related procedures.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Monitor, maintain, and enhance our cloud infrastructure and systems
  • Be a champion for the proper use of cloud technology
  • Lead systems upgrades
  • Participate in design sessions that peel back the layers of assumptions to uncover the core problems to solve, constraints, and performance goals to begin translating them to business or technical requirements

Other responsibilities include:

  • Tracking and testing new design trends
  • Create and maintain system diagrams
  • Developing cloud systems documentation, both internal and external
  • Training appropriate internal staff as needed
  • Developing an understanding of the policy research, survey research and data collection technology marketplace and competitive environment

  • BA or BS required, MBA or Master’s degree preferred
  • AWS certification preferred
  • Minimum 3 years technology experience
  • Minimum 1 year AWS experience
  • Security, EC2, EBS, Cloud Formation, Route 53, auto scale, ELB
  • Experience administering Linux servers
  • Strong analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives
  • Ability to work independently and interface with all levels and functions of an organization
  • Exhibited leadership skills that make everyone around you better
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate communications across cross-functional teams
  • Ability to multi-task in a demanding and deadline-driven environment with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and relationships
  • Desire to roll up sleeves and get your hands dirty
  • Self-starter, entrepreneurial, highly motivated, "get-the-job-done" type
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
