Senior Payroll Manager

We are currently seeking a bright, energetic, and highly motivated Payroll Manager to join our team in our Princeton, NJ office.  As Payroll Manager you will oversee the payroll processes for over 1200 regular status and 500 on-call employees across 10 locations throughout the country.   Other key responsibilities include payroll tax reporting and payments, conducting account analysis and reconciliation preparation, supervision of payroll staff, response to information requests, and assisting with federal, state and financial audits. The Payroll Manager is required to remain knowledgeable of all current payroll legislation and maintain corporate policy and procedure compliance. Specific responsibilities include:

  • Supervises all aspects of the payroll function

  • Manages the time and expense system

  • Updates payroll records by reviewing and approving records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, and job titles, and department/ division transfers

  • Pays employees by directing the production and issuance of paychecks or electronic transfers to bank accounts

  • Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages

  • Determines payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security taxes, and employer's social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments

  • Balances the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies

  • Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests

  • Maintains payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures

  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions

  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies

  • Maintains payroll staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees

  • Maintains payroll staff job results by counseling and disciplining employees; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field with a minimum of 10 years of payroll administration/supervision is required.
  • A Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) accreditation is preferred.
  • Strong recent experience with ADP Payforce/Vantage, ADP Reporting, Deltek Time and Expense (T&E), and Deltek CostPoint is required.
  • Knowledge of SCA and ACA is required.
  • Knowledge of federal and state payroll requirements is required.
  • Advanced experience with excel is required.
  • Experience with International payroll is strongly preferred.
